Crazy Old Lady, Sleepy Bear, Silly Turkey, Snowmen, and a Hat: December Book List

Can you feel Christmas coming?! I love wrapping the year up with some of these sweet books with my kiddos right before that AMAZING and much needed several days off for holiday break. Check out what we will be reading for the month of December below (affiliate links provided).

Bear Stays Up For Christmas by Karma Wilson

Sleepy Bear’s friends vow to keep him away so he can celebrate Christmas with them. Bear books always bring warmth into our classroom. I plan to read this book the week we work on making our parent Christmas gifts since they give each other gifts in the story.

Turkey Claus by Wendi Silvano

After reading about the turkey’s troubles last month, my students always adore this book about silly turkey’s shenanigans to try to escape being the farmer’s meal.

The Hat by Jan Brett

Sweet story of a little girl who lost her mitten, but the animals in the forest all used it for warmth. I love using animal props for this one to sequence or to give student’s a “part” while we read the story.

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell by Lucille Colander

We will absolutely, positively never tire of the old lady and her appetite.

Snowmen at Christmas by Caralyn Buehner

Snowman that party all night – I’m in! At the end of our week reading this, we enjoy hot chocolate together.

Be sure to check out my Christmas Story time Pack for all the visuals and interactive questions (no prep!) you’ll need to keep ALL of your kiddos engaged while giving them loads of practice with story elements and WH questions. I’ve done the planning for you!
