Turkeys are the perfect theme for the month of November. Michaela from Especially Education and I created a HUGE Made For Me Literacy Turkey Unit for you to incorporate into your lesson plans next month. Made For Me Literacy Turkey Unit

This unit is full of amazing activities to do with your special ed, pre-school or even kinder students. The mission behind this curriculum is provide teachers with engaging, comprehensive reading units that are EASY to implement. We did all the leg work so you can have fun with your students while they are learning a ton!

Turkey Story Time Activities

Each month we focus on one fiction text and one nonfiction text. This month, we used the books “10 Fat Turkeys” and “Turkeys on the Family Farm” (non-fiction).

Turkey Anchor Charts

For our anchor charts this month, we included a turkey poem, turkey life cycle, parts of a turkey, and a turkey are/can/have chart.

Turkey Easy Art Activities

In this unit, we make LOTS of cute turkeys! With these crafts, students are independently following step-by-step visual instructions to make their creations. We love crafts that incorporate lots of fine motor skill practice.

Turkey Writing Activities

As with all of our Made For Me Literacy Units, we’ve included the template for a predictable writing chart and a choice board for students to select from.

After students build their sentence for the predictable chart, they create their own turkey disguises and build their sentence again for the class book.

To go along with the class book, we included differentiated writing pages so students can write about their turkey disguises.

We also included an “All About Me” cut and paste flipbook in the unit.

Turkey Math and Literacy Tasks

Here’s a look at one of this months task boxes. We also have file folders and no prep cut/paste activities included in each unit. We cover so many different ELA and math skills each month!

Turkey Cookies

These turkey cookies are as yummy as they are cute! In the unit, we include visual recipe cards, step by step visuals, and parent permission slips.

Play Dough Turkeys

Do you have fun Fridays in the classroom? This play dough recipe is sure to be a hit. Once you make the play dough, students can make their own turkeys using the visual direction cards.
