Watermelon Week End of the Year Activities
The countdown to the end of the school year is on! Celebrate those last few weeks with your students with these fun watermelon themed activities!
Watermelon Sensory Bin
This is by far the easiest sensory bin I’ve ever put together, BUT it turned out so cute! I used red colored rice and dried black beans to represent the watermelon seeds.

Watermelon Story Time Activities
I love the book The Watermelon Seed by Greg Pizzoli and SO DO KIDS. It’s a very silly story with a sequence that is great for working on retelling.
Describing Watermelons Anchor Chart, Directed Drawing, & Cinquain Poems
At the beginning of the week, you can do a little watermelon taste test and explore a whole watermelon to give students ideas on how they can use different adjectives to describe a watermelon. Everything you see is included in this unit.
Once the students sort which visual options describe the watermelon to make the anchor chart, they create their own watermelon directed drawing and cinquain poem.
We Love Fruit Predictable Chart and Class Book
In the focus book, The Watermelon Seed, the main character (a crocodile) goes on and on about how he LOVES watermelon. To make a connection to the story, students write about their favorite fruit using a whole group predictable chart format with a fruit choice board.
Once you go over their sentences several times during the week, they recreate their sentence and color their favorite fruit to add a page to the class book. Class books are great for keeping in the classroom library for students to read!
Learning About the Watermelon Life Cycle
In my Watermelon Week pack, I include anchor charts and clip art and real photo vocabulary posters for the steps in the watermelon life cycle. Once you go over the life cycle as a class, students can follow the step by step visual directions to create their own paper plate watermelon with the life cycle steps attached.
Parts of a Watermelon Easy Art
Students learn the different parts of a watermelon with this fun and easy craft. The templates are included in the unit.
Easy Watermelon Popsicles
By the end of the year, you don’t have the time or the energy to go to the store to buy a bunch of ingredients for a snack! I love how EASY these “Watermelon Popsicles” are. You only need seedless watermelon and popsicle sticks.
Watermelon Guts Sensory Activity
Sensory activities are always fun to pull out on Fun Fridays! In my Watermelon Week unit, I provide the visual steps for students to create these squishy sensory bins. You could even hang them in the windows as sun catchers!
A Slice of Summer Watermelon Craftivity
This may be my favorite thing in the whole pack. The process art activity is so fun and students will LOVE bubble wrap printmaking! In the writing activity, they can write all about what they plan to do for the summer. It is the perfect activity to wrap up the week, the unit, and the school year.
